Do eBay’s New Shop Features Boost Sales?

As the dust settles after a busy holiday season, ecommerce businesses are taking stock of sales performance.

If you’re an eBay seller, you may have noticed enhanced performance thanks to the new shop features made available to eBay shops in November last year. eBay announced these new features just ahead of the holiday seasons to enable sellers to capitalise on the annual Christmas rush.

Some of the new eBay shop features include:

Dedicated Shop tab in Seller Hub

Seller Hub is your new go-to for setting up and managing your shop. You can now access all the latest eBay store features from your Seller Hub.

About tab

Your store now has an ‘About’ tab where your customers can learn more about your business. (Soon, this tab will also support video content, enabling you to tell your brand story and connect with your customers in a more immediate way.)

Store policies

You now have a dedicated section where you can stipulate policies for shipping, returns and other elements of your customer journey so your audience can find this information easily.

Inventory strips

Inventory strips allow you to show selected items to your customers ahead of others. From ‘Featured Products’ to ‘New In’, you have the ability to flag relevant inventory for your customers’ attention.

Visual categories

Enable your customers to easily browse your products by category with appealing images to set each apart from the others. You can include a maximum of 6 ‘shop by category’ sections with custom visuals.

Marketing banners

Clickable marketing banners help you catch the attention of potential customers. You can highlight certain products in your catalogue or announce promotions your buyers will want to know about.

In-search enhancements

In addition to the new Shop features, eBay has made some improvements to the search experience for your customers once they’re in your shop. Customers can now filter within your shop as they would in the general search area, so your inventory is easier to navigate and potential customers can find what they’re looking for more easily. They’ll also be prompted to complete their query when they search for your brand, so their search yields the most relevant products for their needs.

eBay has promised more improvements to shops in the near future, so we look forward to seeing those enhancements as they are rolled out.

To see the new features available, head to your Seller Hub shops tab. And if you’re already familiar with the updates, we’d love to hear whether they’ve impacted your sales performance!

There is one downside to the new eBay features when it comes to sales performance: they are available to all sellers! So while they might boost sales, these enhancements will not make your shop more competitive. If you want to further boost your performance on eBay, consider implementing improvements that set your shop apart from your competitors’.
