HCL Clamping

HCL Clamping is a global manufacturer and supplier of polymer hose clamps and fastening solutions, serving customers across the UK, Europe and North America. As its product catalogue expanded, the business needed an ecommerce solution capable of supporting both trade and retail customers while making complex technical products significantly easier to browse and purchase.

HCL’s existing website contained thousands of individual product listings, many representing variations of the same core product, making product discovery more difficult than it needed to be. Customers often knew the specification they required, but finding and comparing the correct product involved navigating multiple pages and large volumes of technical information.

HCL also wanted a scalable solution that would support future international growth without the complexity of managing multiple independent websites.

We began by understanding how HCL’s customers search for products and how the existing catalogue could be simplified.

Working closely with the HCL team, we reviewed product hierarchy and carried out research and development into a more intuitive purchasing experience. Central to this was the development of bespoke product variant tables, allowing multiple product variants to be displayed within a single parent product rather than across numerous individual listings.

By focusing on information architecture before design and development, we were able to create a solution that reduced complexity without compromising the technical detail HCL’s customers rely on.

Studioworx designed and developed a bespoke Shopify experience that remained true to HCL’s established brand while fundamentally improving the way customers discover products.

To support the buying journey further, we introduced advanced filtering, enhanced search, detailed specification tables, downloadable technical documentation and a dedicated glossary to help explain specialist terminology, creating a more accessible platform for both experienced engineers and customers less familiar with technical products.

Following the successful launch of the US website, Studioworx delivered HCL’s European store including localisation through Shopify markets creating a scalable foundation for further international expansion.

The new HCL websites deliver a significantly more intuitive ecommerce experience, making it easier for customers to discover, compare and purchase highly technical products online.

By restructuring the catalogue and introducing product variant tables, thousands of individual product listings have been consolidated into a clearer, more user-friendly browsing experience. Combined with Shopify Markets, the platform now supports HCL’s international growth strategy.

The success of the project has established an ongoing partnership between HCL and Studioworx, with further ecommerce developments already underway.
